Walcamp
is overflowing with opportunities to share your time and talents
as a volunteer worker in God's great outdoors. If you have ever
served as a volunteer at Walcamp, you already know what a blessing
it is. Those with skills and experience in carpentry, plumbing,
and electricity are especially a necessity for certain projects,
but the only requirement for volunteers is a desire to serve Jesus
Christ through service to Walcamp Outdoor Ministries. Here are some
of the ways you can serve:
*

*

* Grounds & Maintenance Helper
* Kitchen Helper
* Office Helper
* Outdoor Education Teacher
* Worker Bee
* Nurse/Medic

* Annual Dinner & Auction Worker
Service
Opportunities
By
working with a Thrivent Chapter, you can make an even bigger difference.
Some projects and service activities may be eligible for funding
from Thrivent
Financial for Lutherans to buy materials and supplies, such
as log splitters, lumber and paint. Here are some of the many opportunites
you can help out at Walcamp:
Servant
Events/ Work Projects – Walcamp has a list of over a dozen
much-needed projects that are great opportunities for your family,
youth group, or Eagle Scout project. Servant projects are some of
the best ways to spend time and grow with family and friends.
Annual
Events – Join the many volunteers who pitch in once a year
with Walcamp’s annual events, such as the Annual Golf Outing,
and the Annual Dinner & Auction, and Fall Festival
Fund
Raising Projects – Your group can conduct a fund raising project
such as a car wash, garage sale, spaghetti dinner, bake sale, or
corn roast to help Walcamp buy things such as canoes, a 4-wheeler
(ATV) for emergencies in the woods and other uses around camp,
Handicamp
– You can help adults and children with developmental disabilities
by being paired with a camper for a Handicamp week or weekend, creating
a great camp experience for both you and your buddy.
Junior
Servants (15 years of age or older) are a vital part of Walcamp’s
summer program and work with counselors and campers to complete
daily responsibilities. You will spend a week or two free of charge
at camp as a volunteer. It’s a great way to grow in your faith
and have fun.
Camp
Nurse/Medic of the Week (currently certified RN, doctor, or EMT,
etc.) is responsible for all the camper health forms. They review
the information, screen the children when they come into camp, disseminate
the medical information to staff as necessary, and dispense daily
medications.
Kitchen Volunteers help in the kitchen
cooking, washing dishes, and keeping the kitchen up to health code
standards, providing the much-needed behind-the-scenes support for
Walcamp.
Maintenance Volunteers are needed in many
areas, and help with lawn mowing, plumbing, building repairs, tree
trimming, log splitting, etc. In the area of maintenance, we can
never have too many qualified helping hands at Walcamp.
Worker Bees help with hands-on service activities,
such as clearing trees and brush and doing trail maintenance, building
wheelchair ramps, doing gardening, building small shed or wood boxes
for storing dry fire wood, painting picnic tables or a bath house.
Office
Helpers are needed on a bi-monthly basis to assist with our bulk
mailings - a perfect job for a group of retired or semi-retired
men and women.
